The Bone File is used for the final smoothing of the alveolar bone (the jawbone) after a tooth has been removed. It features a serrated working end that allows the surgeon to file down sharp edges or bony protrusions (spicules) that could cause pain or irritation during the gum healing process or future denture wear.
