Description
The Ayres T-Piece is an essential breathing system in pediatric anesthesia. It is designed to minimize breathing resistance and dead space, which is critical for infants and small children with low tidal volumes. The system consists of a T-shaped connector that interfaces with the patient’s airway, a fresh gas delivery line, and an open-ended reservoir tube (limb). It allows for both spontaneous and manual ventilation (when a reservoir bag with an overflow valve is attached, often called a Jackson-Rees modification). Its simple design ensures that there are no valves to increase the work of breathing for small patients.
Key Features
-
Low Resistance: Valve-free construction ensures minimal effort during spontaneous respiration.
-
Minimal Dead Space: Specifically engineered for neonates and pediatric patients to prevent CO2 rebreathing.
-
Lightweight Materials: Reduces the risk of accidental extubation or trauma to the delicate pediatric airway.
-
Standard 15mm/22mm Connectors: Compatible with all standard pediatric endotracheal tubes and anesthesia machines.
Quantity
-
Total: 1 Disposable Pediatric Circuit.
